What is ISKCON?
International Society for Krishna Consciousness is a religious movement that began in United States in 1966 but spread all over the world with time. The society was founded by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada who is worshipped by the devotees belonging to this religious organization as a Guru or spiritual teacher. The upanishads and other Hindu spiritual scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam are given a lot of importance and the devotees are taught to please Lord Krishna.
When was ISKCON temple built?
The ISKCON temple located in the East of Kailash is one of the eight temples in Delhi that belongs to the ISKCON organization and one of the forty all over India. The ISKCON temple is known by the name Glory of India – Cultural Center and is spread over an area of around 3 acres.
This temple was designed and built by Achyut Kanvinde in 1993 and was opened for public in 1998. Inaugurated on Sri Ram Navami by the former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the temple became a point of attraction since it was established.

The ISKCON temple is much more than a temple, it is a Vedic Learning Centre that promotes vedic sciences spreading knowledge through the important Hindu scriptures like Mahabharata, Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita etc. For this many audio and visual shows on the HIndu scriptures are conducted in the temple complex using the latest technology. What is the structure of ISKCON temple?
The ISKCON temple is a tourist attraction and the environment of the temple is very serene and soothing. The main deity who is worshipped here is Lord Krishna but the temple has idols of other deities too like Lord Rama with his companion Lakshmana and wife Sita, Sri Sri Radha Parthasarathi, Sri Sri Gaura Nitai. The temple is so famous among Indians and foreign tourists that more than ten lakh people visit the temple on yearly basis.
The temple is built so beautifully that the people visiting here fall in love with it at first sight. The walls are designed by arts that depict the scenes of life of Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, Goddess Sita and Radha, and these are the work of Russian artists.
There is also a Govinda’s restaurant that serve vegetarian food to the people visiting the temple. The food here is first served to Lord Krishna which is why the food is served to people as prasad which not only calms down your hunger, but also purifies the soul.
There are twenty four priests in the temple who take care of the rituals that are performed here including prayers and other services. There are rooms in the temple complex for the accommodation of the priests.
