India gate was established in 1921. It was also designed by britishers. It was originally called ALL INDIA WAR MEMORIAL because it was war memorial located astride of Rajpath. INDIA GATE is a place dedicated to 82,000 soldiers who died in the first world war during 1941-21. there is a permanent light from cng flames called AMAR JAWAN JYOTI for the flame of the immortal soldiers.

Information about India Gate Delhi

India Gate was formally known as War Memorial Arch and very popularly known as Indiagate. It was built to honour Indian soldiers who died in First World War and also British soldiers who died on the North-West Frontier. The design of Indiagate is quite simple. This was conceived by Edwin Landseer Lutyens. The design is free of ornamentation except the urns that symbolize heroic death. The pine cones represent birth and rebirth. The arch was inaugurated on 12th February 1931. Amar Jawan Jyoti is constructed below Indiagate. It was created in 1971 which was dedicated to all the Indian martyr soldiers.

India Gate History

India Gate was a part of Imperial War Graves Commission. This came into existence in December 1917. It was built for the war graves and memorials of martyrs of First World War. It was founded in 1921. The foundation stone of India Gate was laid by Duke of Connaught. The viceroy, Indian Army soldiers, commander in chief and many officers attended the ceremony.

Amar Jawan Jyoti Amar Jawan Jyoti

Amar Jawan Jyoti was constructed in 1971 below India Gate. It is lighted with CNG flames permanently dedicated to martyrs. It is made up of black marble plinth. At the centre of which lies the rifle (L1A1). And war helmet is capped over the rifle. On 27th of January 1979, it was initiated by Indira Gandhi (Prime Minister at that time). Amar Jawan Jyoti is guarded all the time by Indian Armed Forces.
